Nine people have been killed in a head-on collision between a taxi and a bakkie in Ladysmith in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Provincial Department of Transport spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane says the driver of one of the vehicles lost control and collided with an oncoming vehicle on Helpmekaar Road.
Several people were also injured and transported to nearby hospitals.
Ncalane says Transport MEC Mxolisi Kaunda will be sending a team to investigate the cause of the crash.
“One of the vehicles lost control and collided with an oncoming vehicle. This is happening at a time when the provinces were working very hard to continue to sustain the good position that they achieved during the festive season. The note this accident as a major setback. But They are calling on all road users in the province to drive cautiously and use the road extra carefully.”
